The top wished-for features for Windows 7 were recently leaked to the public which made me think about what the purpose is for some of these requests. Here is what I imagine are the thoughts behind these top feature requests from users:
Explorer Toggle Button to quickly Show/Hide Hidden Files or System Files
- I don’t want to have to name all my folders things like “Grandma’s birthday photos”.
Network/Internet bandwidth monitor
- Why is facebook so slow?
User needs simple way to identify and obtain driver for UNKNOWN devices displayed in device manager
- My new USB “body massager” didn’t come with an install CD
Add alarm function to the OS Clock
- I need to be reminded of my next raid in WoW
Include Pinball into next version of Windows
- I’M A FINANCIAL ANALYST.
Built-in spell checker for Internet Explorer
- I always get dugg down when I misspell words in my Digg comments
Vista Backup should put the files in the target location uncompressed
- I don’t want to have to figure out the archiving method you used on my porn.
DirectX update on Windows Update/Microsoft Update
- I want Microsoft to make sure my World of Warcraft always looks it’s best
Profile Data: Move locations of all user folders and data to another location
- My girlfriend started using my computer and I have to change my account name from LEATHER_DOMIN8R to something normal.
Back up XBOX 360 games to Windows PC
- You seriously think they’ll do this for you?
Option to “Reopen Closed tabs” in IE
- My “Mom” walked into my “room” while I was “browsing porn” so I had to “quickly close” all of the Windows.
Support Boot from EFI (Extended Firmware Interface) or UEFI
- If Microsoft supports EFI, then it will become common place to include on motherboards, this will eventually allow me to install Mac OS X on all PCs.
Zoom in Internet Explorer - Stay where you are
- I don’t want to have to scroll around this 8MP image to find her nipples again
Windows Should Not Need To Spin Up The CD Drive Every Time You Pull Down A Drive List
- When I’m browsing to my porn folder, I don’t want to have to wait for the CD to spin up
